Knobbers, knockers, and counter intelligence…

This is some rock, isn’t it?  I stumbled upon this one at the Madison Area Builder’s Association Home Products Show last weekend.  It’s actually a counter top, but doesn’t it look 3D?  Very cool. I’m not exactly sure what kind of rock it is either…  In fact, neither was the guy trying to sell it to me.  The sign on… (more…)

Minutiae

This is tiny… really tiny… each one of these dots is actually 0.06-0.08 mm in diameter.  That’s 60-80 microns across.  I took this photo on a camera with 5.6x zoom that is attached to a microscope set at 10x magnification.   It’s a pretty cool pattern – the dots are fairly round, with sharp edges – some run together a bit…… (more…)

Room – cold – wintry morning, ice sketched across the window panes, daylight peeking through the pine trees playing with the frosted panes.  You – warm – hunkered down under that down comforter, like… (more…)

Climbing the walls…

It’s snowy here in Wisconsin.  I can barely see my mailbox – my backyard is hibernating… I’m going to attempt to melt snow tomorrow with my mind.  (I’m great at visualization – not so great at winter sports) While I’m climbing the walls, my thoughts turn to – the walls.  Right now, my walls are still marked by the previous… (more…)

My new office

It was clear what the first project was to be… the office.  We relocated to Madison for Eric’s job.  I left a great job in Houston to improve our quality of life… but now I had to figure out how to employ myself.  So – along with my business partner, I started a geologic consulting company.  I would work out… (more…)
